What is Pulmonary Hypertension?

Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) is a serious condition that causes high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs.

As these blood vessels become narrowed, stiffened, or blocked, the heart must work much harder to pump blood through the lungs. Over time, this extra strain can weaken the heart and lead to heart failure if left untreated.

Pulmonary Hypertension is different from the common high blood pressure measured in the arm. It is a rare disease that requires specialist diagnosis and ongoing care.

Although there is currently no cure, advances in treatment are helping many Australians live longer and enjoy a better quality of life.
